RICT Design Planning Workshop (6/17/11)
(Read the full story in the Beverly Review)
The workshop focused on a Phase 1 section of the Rock Island Cycle Trail, a 9.9-mile north/south stretch from Roosevelt to 89th Streets running adjacent to the Rock Island Metra Line. A central component will be the preliminary design of an elevated greenway running parallel to the active Metra line, making use of the underutilized surface atop the viaduct. The cycle trail will also prioritize pedestrian traffic and sport chairs.
The workshop was comprehensive and project-based, starting with problem identification and defining a critical path towards design proposals by employing IIT Institute of Design methodologies. Participants worked individually and in teams, with an emphasis on integrating all parts into a unified proposal.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our initial planning workshop! It was a tremendous success.
